The Best Lego Designs
Legos are toys, but they are also the source of incredible creations. LEGO artists make use of the small plastic bricks to build everything from architecture to robots. The company’s engineers also design new elements that enable builders to create more intricate models. Erik Varszegi, a Master Builder with the Lego Group in Billund, Denmark, designed one such new component this year that is a curved slope. It allows Lego users to design more slanted forms, while adhering to the strict color palette of the company. The slopes can be used to create more dynamic shapes, such as an incline staircase.
Some Lego sets are the result of professional designers’ work, while others are the result of the popular Lego Ideas program. The Ideas line gives anyone the chance to create a set, and then get it made, offering fame and a percentage of sales to designers who can convince 10,000 peers that their creation is worthy enough to be made into a production. It’s no surprise that the most extravagant and stunning sets tend to gain the most acclaim particularly when they contain iconic scenes or characters from TV shows, movies or even real life.
The best Lego designs are two space-age icons: the NASA space shuttle Discovery and an image of the Hubble Telescope. Each telescope comes with a plaque of display and a miniature Lego version of its inventor. Other impressive models include a frame Rainbow as well as a Steampunk Dragon and a model of the Westminster Palace.
